Origins

The Ducati family

Read the manufacturer through the machines that changed its engineering, racing, design, market or cultural meaning.

Ducati was founded in Bologna in 1926 as an electronics business. The post-war Cucciolo auxiliary engine opened the route into motorcycles, while engineer Fabio Taglioni later made desmodromic valve control and sporting singles and twins central to the brand. The Monster broadened Ducati’s market in the 1990s; the 916 then fused racing effectiveness and design into a defining superbike.
