Origins

Hans Trunkenpolz and Ernst Kronreif

Read the manufacturer through the machines that changed its engineering, racing, design, market or cultural meaning.

Hans Trunkenpolz established the Mattighofen workshop from which KTM developed. Motorcycle production began in the 1950s, and off-road competition became a defining competence. The Duke translated that attitude to the road; Adventure models linked rally identity to long-distance travel; the RC8 and Super Duke showed KTM applying the same philosophy to high-performance asphalt machines.
