Context and interpretation.
ThrustSSC is where motor history visibly crosses into aerospace. The FIA records the twin-turbofan jet-powered car at 763.035 mph (1,227.985 km/h) over the flying mile in October 1997. The run was the first supersonic outright land speed record. In Discovery Timeline this exhibit is deliberately connected outward: to jet propulsion, aerodynamics, Black Rock Desert, driver Andy Green and the long lineage of record machines that preceded it.
